STS 807

QuoteData Sheets

The STS Thermo Electra Simulator is a real Thermo Fisher Electra which houses the STS circuitry to convert the instrument into a simulator.  To do this the HV board is removed and the existing probe connector and cable are replaced so that it will operate with any STS simulated probe.

The Electra retains its full functions including audio output, backlight and user setable alarms and other settings.  The instrument functions on all 3 channels - alpha, beta and alpha+beta.  On the Electra these have different audio clicks attributed to them which are retained - it should be noted however that although the different channels can be selected and the meter will respond to the simulant the response on each channel will be the same as the simulant does not vary.

The simulated contamination probe houses a very sensitive detection head that detects the gas given off by the STS simulant, which has been applied to the surface to be monitored. This “radiation” may be detected by passing the probe close to and slowly over the surface, as would be done with a real probe when used by a skilled operator. Too fast, or too far away results in no detection of the simulant and so teaches students the value of careful and controlled monitoring.

Cross contamination can easily be demonstrated, the simulant is a non toxic harmless liquid that is virtually invisible to the eye.  The liquid slowly evaporates producing a small gas cloud that sits close to the surface where the simulant has been applied.  This liquid can be transferred by touch to other surfaces, equipment and the operators clothing and subsequently detected.

Decontamination can also be easily demonstrated as the "contamination" can be cleaned using wipes (which will then show as contaminated) and then re monitored to demonstrate effective removal.  These two scenarios really demonstrate the benefits of using a “real” contamination, even if not radioactive.
The contamination lasts at room temperature for 2-4 hours but totally evaporates within 24hrs leaving the training area ready for the next exercise.

The STS Electra Simulator can be used with any of the STS probes, including AP3, DP2, 44A, HP 210, HP 260, DP6 etc.

The STS 807 is in use in power stations, nuclear fuel processors, hospitals and universities.

STS manufacture a wide range of simulators for most manufacturers products. We are happy to consider your specific task.
